IHRP and human rights partners make joint submission to the UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples

Thursday, October 3, 2013

The IHRP, along with the David Asper Centre for Constitutional Rights, the Native Women's Association of Canada, the Canadian Association of Elizabeth Fry Societies, and the DisAbled Women's Network Canada, has filed a submission with the UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigneous Peoples in advance of his official visit to Canada from October 7 to 15. This submission builds on the earlier work of the IHRP and its partners on human rights violations in Canada's federal prison system. In particular, the submission focuses on the discriminatory administration of sentences of federally-incarcerated Indigenous women and its impact on the mental health of these women.
