Seeking Redress for Historic Rights Violations against Chinese-Candians

In 2003, The IHRP filed submissions with the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Racism. The IHRP called upon the Special Rapporteur to highlight Canada’s historic violations of international law against the Chinese-Canadian community, and asked that he recommend that the Canadian government provide a complete and appropriate remedy to the victims, including an official apology and, where practicable, individual reparations. In his 2004 report, the Special Rapporteur recommended that the Canadian governmemt consider compensating Chinese-Canadians for discriminatory measures.
