On April 9, 2024, the International Human Rights Program (IHRP), alongside a Namibian civil society consortium, Saving Okavango's Unique Life (SOUL), announced the filing of a complaint with the Canadian Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise (CORE | OCRE) against Reconnaissance Energy Africa Ltd. (ReconAfrica). This complaint alleges that the operations of ReconAfrica, a Calgary-based oil and gas company engaged in exploratory drilling in Namibia, led to serious human rights abuses that devastated local Indigenous communities and their land.
