Tuesday, September 17, 2024
Location:
University of Toronto, Jackman Law Building (78 Queens Pk, Toronto, ON)

The International Human Rights Program (IHRP) is hosting a book launch of "The Walls Have Eyes: Surviving Migration in the Age of AI", by Petra Molnarlawyer, anthropologist, and IHRP alumna! Petra will be there in-person to share more about her book, and this timely topic more generally. Based on years of research, the book examines how technology is being deployed by governments on the world’s most vulnerable with little regulation.

Pertra specializes in migration and human rights. She has worked in countries across the world (including Palestine, Kenya, and various parts of Europe), first as a settlement worker and community organizer, and now as a researcher and lawyer. Petra was also a summer fellow and former Acting Director of the IHRP.

You can read more about Petra's latest publication, work experiences, and the inspiration behind it all on her website. Copies of the book will also be available for purchase onsite for those interested.

Open to the public for in-person attendance, we invite all to join us for this free event. Pizza will be served.

"Racism, technology, and borders create a cruel intersection . . . more and more people are getting caught in the crosshairs of an unregulated and harmful set of technologies touted to control borders and ‘manage migration,’ bolstering a multibillion-dollar industry.” - Petra Molnar, The Walls Have Eyes: Surviving Migration in the Age of AI
