Time: 4:30pm - 7:30pm
The International Human Rights Program (IHRP) and Canadian Lawyers for International Human Rights (CLAIHR) are co-hosting a workshop on strategic litigation for the protection of human rights. The workshop will be led by Professor Victor Rodriguez Rescia (coming from Costa Rica), who is the president of the International Institute for Social Responsibility and Human Rights (IIRESODH), the Dean of IIRESODH High Education Institute and the president of the CCPR-Centre (a non-governmental organisation located in Geneva, Switzerland which collaborates with the work of the United Nations Human Rights Committee). He is also a former member and president of different United Nations human rights bodies and former secretary of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.
Professor Victor Rodriguez Rescia will be providing attendees with training specifically on how to incorporate the International and Inter-American Human Rights System in Canadian litigation. Through this workshop, participants will develop and strengthen strategic litigation skills for the full and effective protection of human rights, through the preparation and presentation of emblematic cases and application of precedents emanating from the various international human rights protection bodies to domestic law in Canada.
