IHRP Partners with South African Society for Labour Law (SASLAW)

The fundamental priority of the International Human Rights Program (IHRP) is impact; we choose all projects and partners with careful consideration of the potential positive impact on our students’ legal education, as well as on advancing a human rights issue.  We are excited about our new partnership with the South African Society for Labour Law (SASLAW)’s Pro Bono project, which has become an indispensable cornerstone of the administration of justice at the four Labour Courts around the country by assisting unrepresented and indigent litigants.  Since its inception in February 2011, the project has assisted more than 18,000 clients, who otherwise would not have had access to justice.

With your generous support, we will be able to send nine students to South Africa over the next three summers to assist SASLAW’s Pro Bono project. As with our other fellowships, students will receive a stipend to cover their travel and living expenses for the 12-week-long fellowships.  These stipends are crucial to allow students to participate in this important career-building opportunity without undue financial burden.

Your donation will make a difference: it will not only allow provide an incredibly transformative experience for law students, but it will also assist SASLAW in the important work that it does and improve outcomes for disadvantaged clients by providing them access to the justice they deserve.
