IHRP Alumni Network Committee

Formed in 2014, the IHRP Alumni Network Committee provides a vital link between the IHRP and its over 300 alumni around the world. 

Morgan Sim, Pinto James LLP (chair)

Morgam Sim HeadshotMorgan works on all aspects of the firm’s practice including civil and commercial litigation, employment and labour, human rights, administrative, and constitutional law.

Morgan has worked on cases before all levels of court in Ontario and numerous administrative tribunals. She has also assisted with several landmark cases before the Supreme Court of Canada, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, and the High Court of Kenya.

Prior to joining the firm, Morgan summered and articled at one of Canada’s leading litigation boutiques. As an IHRP intern, Morgan worked in chambers at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda where she assisted judges from three countries with research, drafting, and in deliberations.

Morgan is a graduate of the University of Toronto’s joint Juris Doctor and Master in International Relations program. She also holds B.A. (Hons.) summa cum laude in Political Science and Theatre Arts from the University of Arizona. As a law student, Morgan was a leading member of the IHRP and many feminist student initiatives.

Through the IHRP clinic, Morgan became actively involved with The Equality Effect, a network of leading feminist advocates from Canada, Ghana, Malawi, and Kenya who develop creative legal solutions to address the inequality of women and girls in Africa. She helped design and prepare the successful ‘160 Girls’ test-case litigation and has drafted public legal education campaigns on the criminalization of marital rape in Ghana. She continues to support Equality Effect post-graduation.

Sarah Armstrong, Fasken

Sarah Armstrong, HeadshotSarah Armstrong is a Vice Chair of Fasken Martineau's Ontario Litigation Department and Co-Chair of the Firm’s Arbitration Practice Group.  While a summer student at Faskens, Sarah took part in an eight week IHRP internship to Interights, an international human rights law advocacy organization based in London, England. 

Sarah is an experienced advocate whose litigation, arbitration and dispute resolution practice focusses on complex commercial and contractual disputes and class actions. Sarah has courtroom advocacy experience at both the trial and appellate levels, having acted as lead counsel and co-counsel in a range of matters before all levels of court in Ontario and before arbitration panels.

Sarah also has experience in administrative law matters, including professional discipline.  Sarah currently serves as independent legal counsel to the Discipline and Fitness to Practice Committees of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and Sarah previously acted as legal counsel to the Chiropractic Review Committee of the College of Chiropractors of Ontario.

Sarah has been an active volunteer with Pro Bono Ontario’s Education Law Project for over 10 years.  In this capacity, Sarah regularly represents the interests of primary and secondary school students who encounter legal issues within the education system, including issues relating to special education and discipline.

Sarah is a member of the Board of Directors of the Advocates’ Society and is a frequent speaker and skills instructor on a wide range of topics related to litigation and advocacy.

Sarah is also a member of Faskens’ Ontario Professional Development Committee which is responsible for managing all aspects of the firm’s associate program and associate development from first year through admission to partnership. 

Louis Century, Goldblatt Partners

Louis Century is an associate in our civil litigation group. Before joining the firm, he clerked for Justice Richard Wagner at the Supreme Court of Canada.

During law school at the University of Toronto, Louis was a student caseworker at Downtown Legal Services where he represented low-income clients in criminal and immigration matters. Louis held positions at the International Criminal Court working for a defence team, at the Canadian Council for Refugees as a research fellow, and at the Asper Centre for Constitutional Rights working on constitutional appeals. Louis has also conducted refugee status determinations for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Nairobi.

Jointly with his law degree, Louis completed a Master of Global Affairs at the Munk School of Global Affairs, for which he spent one semester studying at Sciences Po in Paris, and was the co-editor-in-chief of the Journal of International Law and International Relations. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Development Studies from the University of King’s College and Dalhousie University.

Louis was called to the Ontario Bar in 2014. He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and The Advocates’ Society. Raised in Montreal, Louis is bilingual in English and French.

Cait Sainsbury, Borden Ladner Gervais

Cait Sainsbury HeadshotCait Sainsbury is a partner in theToronto office of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP and a member of the Commercial Litigation Group. In addition to her general commercial litigation practice, Cait practices in the area of securities litigation, providing representation to clients in civil and regulatory proceedings as well as investigations conducted by the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada, the Mutual Fund Dealers Association of Canada, and the Ontario Securities Commission. Cait was seconded to the Ontario Securities Commission for a one year term in 2008-2009, where she acted as Litigation Counsel in the Enforcement Branch. Cait is a member of the Canada Committee of Human Rights Watch.
