Tariq Remtulla

Tariq Remtulla is an Associate at Blakes LLP in the Intellectual Property Group. His practice focuses on obtaining, licensing and enforcing intellectual property rights and related technology.

Tariq regularly advises a broad range of clients in respect of commercial transactions and financings involving intellectual property and related technology. These matters include reviewing, drafting and negotiating licenses and other agreements related to intellectual property protection and advising on transactions focused on the licensing, acquisition, sale and use of intellectual property. He also assists in diligence matters related to mergers, acquisitions, sales and other corporate transactions.

Tariq's litigation practice comprises disputes related to patents, copyright, trade-marks, industrial designs, trade secrets, and domain names. His experience includes obtaining and enforcing Anton Piller Orders to seize counterfeit and pirated goods. He also represents clients in general commercial litigation matters, and has significant experience dealing with franchise disputes.

Tariq's trade-mark practice involves conducting trade-mark searches, providing opinions and advice on the registrability of trade-marks, filing and prosecuting trade-mark applications, and representing clients in trade-mark opposition and expungement proceedings.

Prior to law school, Tariq obtained a degree in biology (molecular concentration) and conducted research examining the role of a group of proteins involved with energy production in photosynthetic bacteria.
