The University of Toronto’s Citizen Lab, with research support from the IHRP’s law student Chelsey Legge,  has penned a submission to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on violence against women, its causes, and consequences, Dr. Dubravka Šimonović, in preparation for her report to the Human Rights Council in June 2018.

A United Nations review of Canada’s human rights record should urge Canada to make concrete commitments to meaningfully address its treatment of vulnerable persons in immigration detention, the International Human Rights Program at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law (IHRP) said today.

On September 20, the Career Development Office and the International Human Rights Program at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law released an International Human Rights Career Guide aimed at helping students and recent graduates  navigate international job opportunities in the public sector related to human rights. The 63-page guide focuses on international opportunities available at public interest organizations, within the Canadian government and at U of T’s law school.

Last week, four U of T law students in the IHRP’s Digital Verification working group (along with the IHRP director) attended a first-ever summit at Berkeley for university students being trained to review and verify digital content — typically videos shot by citizens who witnessed atrocities —  that could help human rights lawyers prosecute war criminals.
